The “B” Side of the Fish

LIMEN Music, 2009

This DVD, featuring the total video coverage of our recording session at Limen Studio, is a turning point of my musical career, and I'm happy I worked on it together with Michele Forzani. His knowledge and advices vere definitely the added value for this record!
His company (Lumen Music) broadcasts classical music and jazz concerts via web and everyone of them is recorded in a studio equipped with top-notch video and audio devices.

Obviously there would be no record without my long-term musical friends, who traveled with me all around the world: Diego, Lorenzo and Gio supported me and enlighted this record with their compositions and their music mastership.
Diego wrote a powerful “Jazz Messengers style” shuffle, a minor blues called MR. M.B. BLUES and a wonderful gospel ballad, JOYFUL PRAY. His tenor screams and moans in a long and lyrical solo.
Lorenzo gave his contribution with OUT OF SIGHT, a newly-written 6/8 tune featuring Diego on soprano sax and with a haunting melody called NEXT TO YOU. I recorded this tune as a solo feature.
Gio is a tremendous composer, and STELLE E STELLINE comes from his pen. It is a slow waltz with a complex chord structure framing a melancholy melody.

I wrote eight tunes for this record: LOU, a gospel-flavored ballad dedicated to the memory of Lou Rawls, THE “B” SIDE OF THE FISH, an up-tempo named with one of Gio Rossi’s funny quotes, OPENING ACT, a tribute to the tradition of the jazz organ combos, UP THERE, a fast bebop theme featuring Gio Rossi (the funny alternate take is in the “Special Features” section), MAJORITY, a trio feature with Lorenzo, UPSTAIRS, which I composed in Dresden - reflecting the pensive state of mind this beautiful city puts you in, CEREAL KILLER, an attempt to recreate a 60’s Les McCann typical churchy beat and YES OR NO, a funk tune with a simple and straight melody.

I hope you'll enjoy watching us and listening to our music...we surely had a ball!
